Colombia is the second most populated country of South America after Brazil.
It is one of the most ethnically diverse countries in the Western Hemisphere. The country has 85 different ethnic groups, creating a true melting pot of European, indigenous and Afro-Caribbean populations. More than 75% of the population is of mixed races and contrary to countries in Central America, Colombia has only 1% of its Indian population. People of color tend to live along the coast, and represent about 4% of the country's population. Do to the fact that the majority of the population is of mixed blood, the country tends not to be very racist.
Most of the people are Catholic, although Colombian society is quite modern and open on it customs, especially with regard to sexual matters and preferences.
