Colombia is not as dangerous as its international image would suggest. What people see on the news is not necessarily accurate and certainly not all that happens in our country. The risks are concentrated in few areas and most of them are in remote places and inside the jungle, but even there the government policies on national security have highly improved (more than 50%) in the past three years. Bogota for instance is safer than Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Caracas, Lima, Mexico city, Asuncion, San Salvador and it is as safe as Buenos Aires or Quito. Ibague, the city where all our grassroots projects take place, is a peaceful and safe city, much safer than any capital in South America. None of our programs are developed in or near risk areas, the urban area of Ibagué is remarkably safe, and you can always travel to nearby countryside locations. You will be provided with all necessary information, instructions and advice so that your trip is as safe as it would be in your home country. In any case, bear in mind that you will be fulfilling a social service, for which the community will recognize you with gratitude and kindness, thus contributing to your own personal security
